Strategies to Try

Random Talk buddies (could use dojo group manager, or randomiser- could keep the partners the same for the week)

  • Role play what “good talk buddies”

  • Promote a “no hands up” policy

Student to teacher feedback

  • Make sure it happens during the lesson, capitalise “golden moments”

  • Create the inclusive culture

  • Remember to include prior knowledge from previous lessons before starting lesson

  • Get feedback from students to adapt to where they are learning e.g don’t waste time teaching them what they already know.

  • At the end of the lesson give 2 questions at the end of the lesson “What could I have done differently to help you understand better? (Could use an exit card) Need to include more plenary questions (reflection at the end of the lesson.

Mid-lesson learning stops (Aroha 1 Teaching Team Focus for Term 3)

  • Make sure students are focused on giving feedback based on the success criteria and not things unrelated to focus

  • Start with positives

  • Focus on giving feedback

  • Author chooses their favourite idea to change and take ownership of using their feedback.

  • Analysing an anonymous exemplar.

  • Co-constructing SC with students

  • With a buddy assess and give feedback using the SC

  • Students to select one piece of feedback to make changes to their own writing. 



Time Frame:

Week One

  • Students have written their holiday

  • End of W1 Group students into 3 levels across the hub.

  • Collaborative doc for planning and each teacher to lead each of the levels

Week Two

  • Set expectations and model how to give positive and constructive feedback.

  • Create Visual Prompts - Speaking frames to suit each level

  • Implement collaborative plan
